What Does a Trust & Wealth Management Department Really Do?

September 12, 2025

As one of Iowa’s top Trust & Wealth Management departments, we take great pride in helping individuals and families successfully achieve their financial goals. With over 150 years of experience among our Trust Officers, our team brings deep knowledge, professionalism, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service.

Locally Based, Personally Invested

Our Trust & Wealth Management Department is proudly based right here in central Iowa—and always will be. We believe that a strong local presence is essential to providing the personal attention our clients deserve. All our decisions are made locally, with the flexibility to accommodate each client’s unique situation. It’s this combination of hometown accessibility and top-tier expertise that sets us apart.

Let’s Talk About Your Financial Future

We would welcome the opportunity to sit down with you to discuss your financial goals, needs, and aspirations. But for many, it may not be entirely clear what a Trust & Wealth Management Department within a bank actually does. To help demystify our services, we’ve put together a brief overview of the key roles we can serve and the value we provide.

What We Do

As a Trust Department, we operate under strict internal and external regulations. Our procedures are designed to meet the highest standards of compliance, security, and integrity. Here are some of the roles we may serve for our clients:

  • Trustee for a variety of trusts, including:
    • Revocable Trusts
    • Irrevocable Trusts
    • Family Trusts
    • Special Needs Trusts
    • Generation Skipping Trusts
  • Executor of a probated estate
  • Conservator in a court-appointed role for a protected person
  • Investment Manager for:
    • IRAs
    • Roth IRAs
    • Investment Agency Accounts

Please note: While we administer trusts, we do not draft legal trust documents. We collaborate with skilled local attorneys to ensure your legal documents are expertly prepared.

Additional Services We Provide

Our team also offers a broad range of specialized services to support your financial life and legacy:

  • Tracking Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from IRAs
  • Coordinating tax documents and communication with CPAs
  • Financial planning for future generations
  • Collaborating with farm managers for farms owned in trust
  • Bill pay and property tax management
  • Facilitating discretionary distributions

Let’s Start the Conversation

Whether you’re just beginning to explore trust services or are looking for a more personalized, local approach to wealth management, we’re here to help. Give us a call to our front desk at 515-246-8240 to schedule a conversation with one of our experienced team members.

We look forward to hearing from you and helping you plan for a secure and successful financial future!
